An outstanding pair of late Georgian covered jars or decanters in blown and cut glass dating to the 2nd quarter of the 19th century and of Irish or English origin.Portly,barrell-shaped blown vessels with wide mouths, flaring saucer rims, and cut panel facets on the shoulders and bases.Frosted central belts with a chain of cut-to-clear eyewinker gridded ovals and diamonds cut with stars. Both have magnificent heavy and large cut mushroom stoppers and polished pontils on the underside.Very beautiful and unusual of form.Presumably leaded glass and of good weight.Early heritage of the glass visible in the style of crude cuttings, bubbling within the metal and wear to the bases. The pair stand about 6 inches high and about 5 inches at their widest. They are in excellent original condition, with some sporadic light residue within and expected chipping to the stopper bases.A very fine and unusual pair of late Georgian period covered jars in blown and cut glass of Anglo-Irish origin.Decorated with restrained cutting and of rare portly shape.Period 1830-1850.
