A pair of absolutely gorgeous Austrian portrait/cabinet plates. I am sorry that my photos are not too clear. I was trying to show off the amount of gold on these pieces, so I did not use a flash. As a result, because I wasn't too steady, these are a little blurry. Rest assured that they are MUCH nicer in real life. Attractive maroon red background with smaller amounts of dark green. HEAVY use of gold and it is still bright and vivid. Classical scenes. In one, a man is crowning a woman with a laurel wreath, as she sits with another young woman. In the other, two mischievious cherubs are seen with two more classically draped young women. Some slight wear to the gold, as might be expected from antique pieces, but no chips or cracks. Beehive mark on the back of each plate. The original beehive mark is from the Royal Vienna Company, but true Royal Vienna plates are seemingly as rare as hen's teeth!. By what I have been reading, other Austrian factories subsequently started using this mark, so I feel sure that these are indeed Austian. Each plate is approximately 7 1/4" in diameter.
