This pair of antique Chinese necklaces have been together for generations. I couldn't separate them now. They are both made of silver with coral accents.
The necklace with the larger pendant or amulet has 28" of graduated silver beads strung on a chain. It has a simple hook clasp. The Pendant is 3 1/8" in diameter and 3/8" thick. It has a bird and floral center surrounded by a scroll pattern with faces. The silver is backed with coral silk. It has 5 hanging symbols of a shovel shape with playing pigs, 2 bells, a strawberry and a pick. The other necklace has 30" of 1/8" coral and 1/2" silver beads strung on a thick black string. It has a round clasp with a coral decoration. The pendant is 2" wide, 1 1/2" tall and 1/4" thick. The open scroll design might represent birds and fruits; and, I think there's a baby at the top. The hanging charms appear to be 3 kinds of fruit. The workmanship on both necklaces is outstanding. I could find no hallmarks or anything to identify a maker. They both are in excellent condition with no flaws that I can find. You may want to polish them, or not. My antique dealer purchased these at a Santa Barbara private estate sale. The owner was well known for her collection of fabulous Chinese antiques. My dealer believes these date to the late 19th Century. I apologize that I am not an expert on Asian antiques. I would love to tell you what these symbols mean. Perhaps you can tell me? I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping.
