This is a pair of beautifully designed 19 th Century English Sterling Silver Salts and Spoons in their original protective box. The Salts are dated 1898 and are boat-shaped with oval pedestal feet. The Spoons are dated 1853 and have round bowls with nicely designed handles. The elegant design of the Salts and Spoons can be seen in the photos below, although the photos do not do them much justice. The Salts contain the following hallmarks: Maker's Mark W.H.L., representing British silversmith W. H. Leather Lion Passant, representing the standard mark for .925 Sterling Silver Date Mark of "y", representing the year 1898 City Mark of an Anchor, representing the City of Birmingham The Spoons contain the following hallmarks: Maker's Mark HA, representing the Atkins Brothers silversmiths City Mark of a Crown, representing the City of Sheffield Lion Passant, representing the standard mark for .925 Sterling Silver Date Mark of "K", representing the year 1853 Duty Mark, representing a profile of Queen Victoria and showing that tax had been paid to the crown (the use of these marks was abolished in 1890) Although the box shows its age, the sterling pieces themselves are in excellent condition. The letters MD are marked on one side of each Salt. The handles of the Salts are very slender and appear to be slightly bent in some places; however, this does not take away from the beauty of these pieces. These fine pieces came from Choyce Gallery in London (tag is included). The Salts measure 3 7/8-inches long x 1 3/4-inches tall x 1 11/16-inches wide at the top. The Spoons measure 2 3/4-inches long x 3/4-inch wide at the bowl. The total weight of the sterling pieces is 3 1/2 ounces. Will gladly ship outside of the United States if winning bidder is willing to pay extra postage and insurance. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have. Thank you for your interest.
