Welcome to my auction for this magnificant and important pair of French porcelain and bisque figural covered compotes. They date back to the second half of the 19th century. Bottom of bases are unmarked - there just appears to be the number 125. MEASUREMENTS: 19 3/4" high with covers 14 1/2" high without covers Small bisque figures recline on top of the compote covers. Standing man and woman are also made of bisque. Balance of compote is porcelain. This ornate pair is beautifully and delicately hand painted with great attention to detail especially on the period clothing. She is holding a small dog and he is holding a gold circular object (not sure what it is). Gold accents on the leaves, base and compote bowl highlight this pair. CONDITION : Overall condition is quite good. Especially considering the size and complexity of the workmanship There is a repair to the inside of one of the lids - which is not visible when cover is on. There is a 1/2" chip of gold paint located above his head and below the bowl portion of the compote. This is not readily visible as it gets camouflaged under the gold leaves that protrude outward. There is repair to the man's base - where there is some paint touch up. (pls see last three close-up pictures) There is some minor gold loss along the reticulated bowl portion of the compotes. There are no other defects or problems. This pair makes quite a dramatic presentation and is extraordinary in appearance and execution. I GLADLY SHIP WORLDWIDE. PLEASE EMAIL FOR POSTAGE.
