Up for auction is a fantastic pair of antique German silver etched compotes. They are all hand crafted and hand numbered. Each piece is marked German, 800. One compote is marked in the center underneath with a shield containing a 'B', then a lion in profile, with one paw up, and beside that is what seems to be a crown, and it is hand numbered: B23287, and the other compote is numbered B27670. The compote with the lion mark in the silver has absolutely NO chips, cracks, or repairs! The other compote has 2 small chips on the top which are about 1 millimeter, and also one very small bite that is less than 1 millimeter, and all 3 could be buffed out by the right person. The crystal on both pieces is somewhat thin to imagine them being as delicately decorated as they are. Both pieces have matching scenes that are etched from UNDERNEATH! The scenes include: birds, 2 sailboats, trees, a bridge, palm trees, a windmill, and a 2-story dutch style home. The etching is so precise and ornate that you can see the shingles on the roof, leaves in the trees, boards in the ships, waves in the water, grass, bark on the trees, and much more! Now lets talk about the silver bases. They are covered from top to bottom with decorations! The top has a scalloped wave design much like the top of the crystal compotes. From that, lattice, vines and 'S' scrolls flare out to the base. It has 4 different flowers on the base, and each one is different, I am no flower expert, but I notice a daisy, rose, then a 5 petaled flower and another rose type flower. Another nice feature to the silver is that they have a place to be monogramed, but never have been. They measure 3.75" tall and 6.75" long (with both the base and compote). Both the crystal and silver are connected but just the silver base measures: 3" long and 2" tall.
