A really striking pair of majolica Art Nouveau handled vases made by Josef Strnact in Austria. They are heavily and colorfully painted with raised decoration of flowers and leaves with graceful handles. The vases are marked to the base with the impressed shield mark JS but with no country of origin mark which I assume dates them before 1891. They measure 10 1/4" in height and 6 1/4" across the top handles. One vase is in very good condition and the second has damage as shown which does not really show from the outside due to the dark blue color. Both also have very tiny flakes along the foot rims (please see photos). These vases are real collector's items and it is rare to find an intact pair.
