This auction is for a matched PAIR of antique, VERY MASSIVE Bronze opening Portholes. COMPLETE with their inside trim rings. Can't see any markings, but quality and style are typical of Wilcox Crittenden manufacture , and a nearly identical port is pictured in the early WC catalogs. Ports are extremely heavy , and of high quality construction. Always kept polished, they remain in REMARKABLE CONDITION, with no bedding compound, flaws or damage to the glass.etc. Edges still remain unrounded and crisp. Thumbscrew latches rotate and swing nicely, and the ports open easily. Rubber seals remain lively and pliable. Thick glass lenses are very clear, with no chips or scratches. Castings project inward 1 1/8", upon which the inner rings neatly fit. Ports have 4 inch glass, and the bronze bodies measure about 7 3/8" overall. The weight and quality of the casting and finishing is quite a bit better than anything I've seen made recently. These portholes would make nice matches to existing ports on a vintage vessel. Though these are very heavy items, the shipping cost stated is correct anyw in the U.S. , due to the use of the USPS Priority Mail 'Fixed Rate" boxing- Might as well take advantage of that while it lasts. These are SERIOUS OPENING PORTS , and would be great to let in light and air on an old Schooner or Gaff-Rigger - Or that NEW Schooner about to be laid up. It is VERY DIFFICULT to find a matched pair of quality Bronze Ports in this condition , complete with their trim rings. Inferior imports would run several hundred dollars apiece. Handsome GEMS for that vintage wooden boat, or for use in the door of a Nautical Tavern or Den, offered with a very .....................Low Reserve.
