Here's a stunning pair of Art Deco "Syroco" geometric greyhound dog bookends from San Francisco Estate. Made by the Syracuse Ornamental Company, also known as "Syroco". Circa 1940's. These wonderful bookends were made from a combination of wood compound and casting fluids, and then poured into a mold. The finished castings were then hand carved and the paint finish was applied. There is a metal plate attached to the bottom to hold the books. (see picture). These fabulous bookends show a greyhound dog jumping through a curved partial circle with geometric lines and designs in the background. They look stunning on these deco designed stairstepped bases. The colors are bronze and gold with terracotta red on the metal plates. The overall measurement is 5-3/8" tall, 5" wide, and 4" deep. There are no signatures or manufacture marks that we could find, but they are quality, and they probably had a paper label at one time. The condition is amazingly very good - shows wear and lots of tarnish on the metal plates, which cannot be seen when they are holding books. There are no chips, breaks, or repairs. The estimated value was $150.00 according to the estate. Our reserve is only $35.00 for both. These fabulous deco bookends came from an estate in San Francisco, and are vintage. They have a great deco look - very modernistic and unique. Pictures read more
