A Very Fine Pair of 19th Century Jamaican Colonial Etageres or What-Nots. These are Victorian in style and were made about 1860 of solid mahogany. I am selling them for an elderly lady who is a client of mine and who is a descendant of one of the old British Colonial planter families of Jamaica. This pair of Etageres (called What-Nots in Jamaica) belonged to her Great-Grandparents.They came from Dunedin, the Great House of Luana Estate, an old sugar plantation in St. Elizabeth parish, Jamaica, and have been in the same family for almost 150 years. I have only shown the Left Corner Etagere or What-Not in the photos, but they are a matching Pair and the Right Corner Etagere or What-Not is completely identical in every detail. They would have stood in both corners at one end of the Drawing Room of the plantation house in Jamaica and would have held fine old English china vases and ornaments or perhaps Meissen or Dresden porcelain figurines. The measurements for this elegant Pair of Mahogany Etageres or What-Nots are as follows: Height: 60 inches Width: 22 inches (Base) Depth: 14 inches (Base) I am putting up several other items of fine old Jamaican Colonial mahogany furniture on Ebay that also came out of the same plantation house, Dunedin, in St. Elizabeth parish, Jamaica. These include a magnificent Victorian Plantation Tester Bed that was handcrafted out of solid mahogany by skilled cabinetmakers in Jamaica about 1860. Please check my other Auctions on Ebay for further details. This magnificent Victorian Plantation Tester Bed and other beautiful pieces of 19th Century Jamaican Colonial mahogany furniture may also be seen by appointment only at my house situated in South Miami, Florida starting on Saturday, May 12th. The name of the plantation in question was Lacovia Estate, not Luana Estate which is actually several miles south-west of Lacovia. Freudian slip. Key Words: West Indies, West Indian, West India, Caribbean, Carribean, Island, Islands, English, Scottish, Empire, Raj, Creole
