MARION BRONZE Figural bookends depict Knights in full armor with their lances held at their sides. They sit atop their horses which are in full decoration. Paint detail as shown--paint looks great. One bookend lacks the bottom felt and each has a slightly different shade or patina on the bases and horses. They were probably from different pours and the concentration of copper or brass in one of them is higher than the other. You only notice this most when they are placed side by side as shown. Used as bookends or opposite sides of a shelf, the variation won't matter. Bronze clad was a manufacturing technique in which a layer of bronze was applied to a plaster form in the process of electroplating. They feel and look like bronze, but are not solid bronze. Marion Bronze was one of the most respected companies using this form of electroplating. These old pieces are in great condition and have the MB marks on each as seen in images which absolutely authenticates them. They sit well and steadily on a flat surface, the paint is also in great condition overall with some rubs or splashes as seen. The piece with the more coppery patina on the base and horse has a closed small crack on a tiny area on the black upper base, just forward of the horses back hoof to the front side and this one also lacks the original bottom felt.
