Pair Covered Vases, Samson, Armorial, 19th c.,13" + 1 open vase 8 ".Form: Pair of jardinieres. Components: Hard paste. Decoration: Vases are baluster shaped and stand approximately 13" tall with lids . Pair of Samson porcelain vases and covers in the Armorial style, 19th century, decorated in florals and painted with a central armorial crest, the base marked with faux Chinese, 13''h. with lids. They are hand painted and enameled having armorial crests with fleur-de-lis'. Above the shield is a crown . The remaining space is decorated with flowers and foliates. The lids have floral finials. Colors: Gold, pink, purple, green, black & blue. Markings: faux chinese as seen in attached photos. Size: 13 " tall & approx. 5 " wide . single vase approx. 8 " tall Condition: Excellent. History: Samson began his career by making service and set piece replacements in the late 1830s. In 1845 he opened the ceramics firm Samson, Edme et Cie at 7, Rue Vendôme (later Rue Beranger) in Paris, with the intention of supplying reproductions of ceramics on display in museums and private collections. The factory was moved to Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis in 1864 by Samson’s son, Emile Samson (1837–1913). The firm either drew inspiration from other factories, or directly copied their pieces.
