A pair of Doulton Lambeth Silicon earthenware vases made around 1885 and featuring micro mosaic decoration. Of ovoid shape the vases sit upon a two tiered concave pedestal and rise to a wide neck with finely ribbed upper rim. The geometric tiles have been cut, shaped and hand applied to the body of the vase. The tiles are coloured black, blue and cream and are on a natural brown ground. This mosaic decoration is typical of the work of Eliza Simmance. Factory Marks - the base of each vase bears the particular impressed 'Doulton Lambeth Silicon' mark which was used between 1881 and 1891. The pattern number '1884' is also on each vase together with the designer's/decorator's impressed marks. Condition - both vases are in very good condition with no cracks, hairlines or restoration. Due to their age there are a few tiles missing from the shoulders of the vases. Dimensions - the vases stand 4.5 inches (11.6 cms) high and have a diameter of 2.2 inches (5.6 cms) at the top, 3.6 inches (9.1 cms) at the wide st point and 2 inches (5 cms) at the base. The packed weight of the pair is 1.2 kg.
