Rare Offering Fine Original Early E.F.Caldwell Pair of Sconces in Untouched Patinated Bronze finish signed on backplates with 'C' within diamond Very rare, fresh to the market pair of early E.F.Caldwell patinated bronze sconces. Estate fresh also means covered with dust, photographed to show the condition these were found in. I will gladly give these a very light cleaning before shipping, but did not want to over clean as you can see in the photographs the aging shows all over and will leave the final steps of the cleaning process to the winning bidder. These are a fine pair of highest quality sconces for a Caldwell collector. Edward Caldwell began producing lighting in 1894, these sconces appear quite early and we were told date to close to the turn of the last century. Switches are marked Weber and are intact, sockets intact as well and match the patina of the rest of the fixture, a deep copper color. Some of the patina has a gilt tone as can be seen in the close up photos. T is an all-over darkening with lighter areas of original patina coming through. The bases have been very carefully dusted free and lightly cleaned with a cloth to show the patina. E. F. Caldwell lighting was considered the finest of its era, and can be found in such buildings as the White House, Radio City Music Hall's main lobby, the Boston Public Library, and the Waldorf-Astoria. The metal work is considered on par with the finest European designers. Please see my other listings for an E. F. Caldwell lamp. These sconces are quite heavy. They are marked on reverse with the characteristic 'C' within the diamond shape. The original wiring remains inside. Size: 11 inches high, 10 inches at the widest, and about 6 inches deep. One arm appears to be very slightly kiltered in, very hard to photograph. Hard to recognize as well, mentioned only to be absolutely discriminating on condition. Please be sure to email with any questions, also with cleaning preference prior to shipping. Also please email for international shipping rates.
