Very rare pair of Boston and Sandwich spill vases pressed in opaque white milk glass dating to the mid 19th century.Early Diamond Point pattern spills pressed in flint with chalice-shaped bodies of patterned raised diamonds, flaring sawtoothed rims, fluted short stems and rayed star bases. From the very early period of colonial patterns in pressed glass and magnificent specimens of milk glass. They have the greyish shading and tiny black specles withing the glass commonly found only in early Boston and Sandwich examples.Heavy for their size due to lead content and resonating like brass bells when struck. They stand 5 1/8 inches high and 3 3/4 wide at the rims. The glass is top quality opaque white with crisp designs indicitive of their New England heritage and extremely rare to find as a matching pair. The base undersides are rayed ,pointing to the early days before molds were made omitting this finer detail. In superb condition save for some minute and expected factory mold roughness around the bases. For lovers of early flint pattern glass and fine old milk glass, these matching spills are a must have.Period circa 1840-1860.
