Stately pair of stupendous covered urns in the Irish manner.Period of George III 1810-1830.Magnificent heighth of 12 3/4 inches.Slender and graceful proportions with pagoda domed lids.Hand wrought in blown leaded glass of typically renowned Irish quality of the early 19th century and classical Georgian styling.Exhibiting superb balance of restrained cuttings in diamond-diaper motifs and sliced panels with horizontal seperating borders.Diamond-cut balloon finials with deeply incised star toppers.Urn vessels are annealed to tapered and facet cut short stems with round bases, with faceted added rings at the joiners.Solid square plinth bases of about 3 1/2 inches with polished concave undersides.Outstanding brilliance to the glass, with a greyish cast familiar to Irish work.Swirling, bubbling and some uninfused sediment within the metal attesting to an early heritage. The jars weigh in at 3.6 and 3.5 pounds respectively.Extraordinary in beauty and condition. Both have several minute flecks to the jar rims and several small chips to the block bases, none disfiguring or detracting.Such jars are rarely found in such grand proportions or in so fine a state.Fine remnants from the period of George III when Irish artistry in glass reigned supreme on both sides of the Atlantic.Glorious.Period 1810-1830. After numerous inquiries from interested parties and some intense persuasion on my part, the owner of these consignment jars has finally granted me permission to reveal their reserve price at $750.00.Also,I neglected to respond to the second part of one viewers question about the bases/scratching.Edward-T is minimal scratching or table wear to the base undersides, the condition is uncommonly outstanding.
