Pair of Lavish Art Deco Torchieres with Glass Insets Art Deco was a popular design movement from 1920 until 1939 , affecting the decorative arts such as architecture , interior design , and industrial design , as well as the visual arts such as fashion , painting , the graphic arts , and film . This movement was, in a sense, an amalgam of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including constructivism , cubism , modernism , Bauhaus , Art Noveau , and futurism . Its popularity peaked during the Roaring Twenties . Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, functional, and ultra modern. These amazing torchieres spell it out in all caps! These have all the Art Deco signatures...geometric design, stylized cameos and frosted glass insets. These impressive lamps were once part of a three-piece mantel set, but now stand alone magnificently. The pieces stand an impressive 15 inches tall from a 5 inch square base. The replacement frosted glass insets measure 4 inches square and are 4 1/2 inches deep. The glass sits in a marvelous pedestal incised with geometric and modernistic designs. These pieces are obviously from the early Deco period, probably in the early 20s and t are no flaws in the metal bases which could be spelter or bronze, but we aren't sure of what the metal bases are composed . These make a statement: pure, simple and elegant. They could stand alone on a mantelpiece, on a shelf or on a bedside table or dresser.
