These are a pair of antique elephant bone and ivory Foo Dogs. We have had them in our family for over 30 years. They are vintage copies of the original ones that were from the reign of the Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795) during the Qing dynasty. They are made of smaller pieces of elephant bone and ivory and pieced together like a puzzle. The originals would have been made from a single piece of ivory including the pedestal and worth tens of thousands of dollars. I have been told that these date pre- 1911 because of import/export laws in China changed at that time and these have no stamp that was implemented after 1911. But I do not have any documentation. I got that from an antique dealer. They are fantastic pieces as you can see in the pictures and very intricately carved. Each one is a foot tall and over a foot wide. One symbolizes protection of family with its paw on a pup and the other symbolizes protection of property with its paw on the ball. I do have an appraisal for insurance and it states that the replacement cost is 2,000.00. E-mail me with any questions.
