PAIR OF ARMED ILLINOIS SOLDIERS I won this image about 19 years ago in a small farm auction 15 miles south of Kewanee , IL , Henry County . At the time I won the bid I canvassed all the older members of the family and asked if they knew who was in the picture that I had won the bid on. Three of them agreed that the man on the right in the picture with the pistol out was "John Test" from Henry Co. IL. The other fellow was a guess and I could tell from the way they were trying a bad guess at that. Checking the Illinois Adjutant reports, I found-- John Test. Co. A, Corporal , 124th Ill. Inf . Kewanee, Henry Co. Ill. Now one of the nice things about this computer age is that you have time while this auction runs to do research on the article you are interested in, real handy. I know he is supposed to have died in Memphis in 63 I think, but I never went much farther. The image is on metal, I took it out after getting it to see what it was and if anything was written in it. T was no writing or marks to tell anything so I wrote in pencil in the back the name of John Test so it wouldn't be lost to history. Image is super sharp and clear, both men have revolvers, muskets, and full leather equipment buckles plates and all, frock coats and probably other small things I probably don't notice. The case is in nice shape for what it is. I have seen some cases for these old photos at flea markets that would make you stare, Well this one is very plain as you can see in the photos with a floral design and is made out of wood with the embossed paper applied over it. The hinge looks to have had a new piece of black cloth glued in place I think. Again, this is a super sharp image of "TWO" armed western theater "double armed" at that soldiers, and whoever wins this will be the first to own it out side of this area and only the second person outside the original family. Wife says I should keep it but you can't keep everything so I'm going to try this once, if it don't bring what I want It's going back in the vault. You have any questions I will try to answer them to the best of my ability. I have one other C-W photo not as nice but I don't need it either be sure to look at my other things for sale.
