This is a matched pair of Adlake railroad lanterns.
One has a red globe, the other has a clear globe. Their serials numbers ( 10318 and 10320) show that these two have been companions for a very long time. The lanterns are in very good condition, and they are actually functional. The only really noteworthy imperfection that I can find is a lip chip on the clear globe, which can be noticed only when the globe is removed from the lantern for cleaning or whatever. These lanterns have never been "electrified" or anything like that. They are in totally original, vintage condition, as if you have just stepped off a steam-driven train many decades ago with these in your hands. is the embossing on the tops of the lanterns: THE ADAMS AND WESTLAKE CO. CHICAGO-ELKHART-NEW-YORK B. & M. R.R. ADLAKE NO. 250 KERO MADE IN U.S.A. PATD NOV.28-1911 APR.1-1913-MAY 9-1922-CANADA 1921-1923.PATS.PENDING The globes are both embossed: ADLAKE KERO Additionally, the red globe has an embossed emblem that looks like a large C with NX inside of it. (Possibly the glassmaker's mark.)
