is a great deal on two historical Staffordshire plates, both by James and Ralph Clews, dating to about 1830, but quite different subject matter. The first is a dark blue 10.25 inch soup plate with a sporting or hunting motif, showing hunters, dogs and firearms. It has Clews impressed circular mark on the back and is in pretty god condition with pronounced stilt marks on the reverse, and two very tight hairlines. It displays very well. The second is a 7 inch purple transfer plate from Clews Picturesque Views Series, this one labelled on the back, "Junction of the Sacandaga and Hudson Rivers." It is in wonderful conditon save a tiny rim chip in the white border at 6:00. It also dates to about 1830. Both are sold with NO RESERVE, but AS IS. The free listing tool.
