is a great pair of 1853 J. Hoare cut glass oil & vinegar cruets from a local estate. I think these could be called from the American Brilliant Period. These have been in storage for 40 years or more. They measure about 7 1/4" tall, and the main body is 2 1/4" wide. Each has a ground stopper, with some very minor flakes, as shown. The only other damage is a small flake at the underside edge of one, as shown. These are obviously a set, but t are subtle design differences. Very minor, t is a "flatter" facet on the top of one handle, not exactly like the other. I am talking about very minor differences, probably the result of these being built by hand, one at a time. Also t is a color difference, probably the result of each bulk glass batch not being so well controlled as it is today. Very minor color difference, but I need to mention it. Nobody else at the house noticed it, but I did. One stopper is acid etched with "J. Hoare & Co. 1853 Corning". The other simply has the number "71". These stoppers are almost interchangeable, just a slight difference, one does belong with one jar, fit is very exact. The only difference is the height of the stopper when it sits on the jar, to be even.... t is only one "combination". It might be the case that the one that is marked 71 might not be J. Hoare, but a good copy. The research I have done on this maker said that several good companies were in active competition at the time, this might just be 2 makers. The small base flake is not from the Hoare cruet, but the "71" cruet. T is a small "channel" cut into the top of each spout, so the liquid runs straight out of the pouring lip, nice touch. Please ask questions if needed. Each weighs about 1 pound, 1 ounce. Buyer to pay a flat rate of $7.00 for Priority Mail shipping...The Terms.... I will email you shortly after the auction ends.
