Superb Miniature Pair of Silk Pictures. . .in their original frames and reverse painted mats, which are reverse painted black with gold accents. These are little jewels and obviously have always been together and are being sold TOGETHER. Two for the price of one! You are buying both examples, and both are charming. One depicting a young boy holding a wonderful bird, and the other a young girl with her Pet Lamb. Silk threads on a Silk Ground with Paper faces and Hands. . . in fact, the girls forearm is also paper with their paper skin accented with watercolor details. This was a typical technique used in the early 19thC in Both England and America. . .with schools teaching this sophisticated method in larger cities. . .London and Philadelphia Schools were known. I do believe that these are English examples. . .and they are extremely small. . . measuring the outer frames: 7 1/4" x 8 1/4". And, the frames are what appear to be period with sand finished outer edge, and carved inner edge with applied gold finish. They have been framed for a very long time and have a paper rectangular sticker on the back dust cover that appears to be from the Gallery that originally sold these little gems. It is the Gallery of well known antiquarian: Philip Suval and it lists his Gallery on both Madison Avenue, and in the summer: Easthampton, Long Island. Although sold mid 20thC from the gallery, at that time they were antique as well. They probably date to the early 19thC, between 1825 and 1850. . .when examples like this were being executed by the girls of fine finishing schools. We have included shots within their frames, and some that show the eglomise mat and inner oval image. We welcome your questions, and we have also included a low reserve. . . remember we guarantee what we sell. . .so bid with confidence. Remember, It is One Price for the PAIR! An apology for the flawed images: Upon reviewing my photos it has become apparent that the reverse painted gold highlights on the underside corners of the glass mat and the underside oval edge of the mat. . .did not process in the photograph. They are t, just not in the photos. My guess is that It must have had to do with the reflection from the camera?. . .They are really wonderful period accents, but just aren't evident These details are a plus to the images. . .I wish they had shown!
