Another PAIR of FABULOUS Japanese vases ................. This time A SUPERB PAIR OF GOSU BLUE HEXAGONAL SATSUMA VASES signed GYOKUZAN. The hexagonal bodies are stoutly potted, the broad shoulder pulling in to a short neck and thick flared mouth; the raised foot rim pulls in and "floats" the body, the recessed base of both vases marked in raised gilt with the Shimazu mon and Satsuma and Gyokuzan marks. Decoration consists of Peonies on one side - in iron red, turquoise, Gosu blue, and gilt, with assorted chrysanthemums on the reverse in the same color palette. The top of the shoulder is overlaid with iron red & gilt chrysanthemums with turquoise leaves - all on a Gosu blue ground. In the subtle Japanese taste - one vase has the inclusion of a turquoise butterfly! Dimensions: 6 inches tall x 3-1/4 inches in diameter. In mint untouched condition. These are choice and superb - with the gilt decoration 100% intact. You won't find nicer on eBay!
