This pair of signed Limbert chairs has all the characteristics of quality made furniture of the turn of the century period and are consistent with the quality of Stickley. Features include mortise and tennon joints and splined seats. The front stretchers and top rail are pegged. Both chairs have the branded Limbert mark under the seat. The seats have been nicely shaped for comfort and the back rails are curved. The wood that shows w the paint has flaked off is nicely figured quarter sawn oak. The chairs are 37 inches tall and 17 inches wide and are heavy for their size; the seats are an inch thick. These would be a fun restoration project, but unfortunately, not for me. I have too many of this kind of project around the homestead.... Both chairs have been painted. One chair is in decidely better condition. It is loose and can move front to back about 1/4 inch; the front and back legs are worn on the outside corners, and the feet are worn. The second chair is not in as good of condition. In addition to the previous description, the front stretcher is worn at the top and metal rods have been installed through the left and right legs in a fruitless and destructive attempt at tightening the chair. If you are a craftsman, you can solve this problem! When restored, these will be a fantastic addition to your dining or side chairs as the look and proportion are classic! They are well worth the effort to restore them to their vintage beauty. (I'd love to see the results when these are restored) Thanks for your interest!
