Pair of Solid Silver & Gilded Presentaion Goblets. Opening of the New London Stock Exchange Mappin & Webb Hallmarks London 1972 . Total Weight 430 grammes . This is a matching pair of solid silver goblets made by Mappin & Webb to commemorate the opening of the New London Stock Exchange by H M Queen Elizabeth II in 1972. A Limited Edition of 1,000 were produced and these are individually numbered 179 and 184 respectively. The tapering bucket shaped bowls are inscribed with a Coat of Arms on one side and opposing is an engraved desciption of the event (see under Marks below for the details). The bowl is supported by a conical stem and towards the base are applied alternating heads of a bull and a bear representing the opposed markets. These heads are made of solid silver and are gilded as are the insides of the bowls. The stem sits on a circular foot which is hallmarked on the topside. The underside of each foot is stamped with the silversmith's name and the limited edition number. A superb pair produced to commemorate a significant event .Total weight of 430 grammes.
