PAIR STUART DEVLIN Solid Silver GOBLETS H'mark 1969 NR 14+ troy oz - STUNNING & V RARE PAIR - Superb Condition This is a SUPERB PAIR of solid sterling silver large wine goblets or cups or chalices or champagne flutes that were made in London, England in 1969 by the illustrious silversmith, Stuart Devlin. Each goblet has an inverted conical bowl, gilded internally, and a long naturalistic hammered finish stem which is gilded. The stem stands on a round spreading pedestal base. Each measures 7 1/8" high by 2 3/4" in diameter across the lip and almost 2 3/4" in diameter across the base. They are sold silver - not loaded or weighted - and are VERY substantial - each weighs 219.5 - a total of well over 14 troy oz. Stuart Devlin ranks as one of the great contemporary gold and silversmiths and has been acclaimed by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths as the designer with 'the Midas touch'. In the 1960's and 70's some silversmiths were disenchanted with designing anonymously for big manufacturing firms, which were in decline, and they set out on their own. They focused on their own style and had a personal commitment to the marketing of their own productions. The business designer craftsmen Stuart Devlin and Gerald Benney led in this field. They are in very good condition with much less than of the usual light surface scratching than you'd expect for their age with NO splits, NO dents, NO dings and NO distortion - SUPERB condition. Each is hallmarked with SD, leopard head, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark), o showing that each was hallmarked in London in 1969. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. A super pair of STUART DEVLIN wine goblets or champagne flutes in SUPERB condition after over 40 years at a very low start - so very rare to find a pair!!!!
