PRICE REDUCED TO SELL FAST ON 2/19/2010!! These handsome and elegant mid-19th century engraved prints depict regional fashion and clothing of the time by the Swiss artist Karl Giradet - or Girardet - (1813-1871) and the engraver Eleonore Sophie Rebel (b. 1790 d.?) Note the incredible fidelity and clarity of the engraving in the close-up photos. The young woman's print is inscribed at the bottom thus: "Jeune Fille de Brienz" (rough translation: "Young Woman of Brienz - in the canton of Berne - Suisse").The man's print shows a young fellow vacationing on the Isle of Schokland in the Netherlands, also by the same artist and engraver, with the inscription "Pecheur de L'Ile de Schokland".The original print of the female is in the collection of the Mid-Manhattan Library Picture Collection/Costume -- regional -- Swiss. The male print may also be t, but I am not certain, although the collection t apparently has 2 folders and 43 pictures as of 2/13/2009. This collection includes "printed rarities...including rare prints and printed ephemera, and more." Both prints in this auction are framed with glass, and the frame is a nicely done laminate. Note that both prints are delicately hand colored to add a subtle tone to the whole...just a light brown to her hat and scarf, and on his vest, pantaloons and shoes.
