This pair of Japanese woodblocks are signed by Ohno Bakufu (1888-1976) which I believe were done in the 1950s. They are matted and are mounted on rigid board. The color on them is vivid, they were clearly never left in sunlight. BOTH have gradient colored backgrounds - this doesn't show too well on the one on the right-hand side of the picture.

Each measures 20"x13" with the mat; I can lift the matting except on the top, w both the woodblock and the mat are affixed to the board, but the approximate measurement I get of the woodblock is 16x11½.

Much of the color does go through to the back of the paper, indicating that it is Japanese paper; one of the prints has 3 strings of Japanese characters in the margin hidden underneath the mat. Ohno's signature and some areas of the pictures have raised paint.

Signatures: B. Ohno in ivory colored paint; a long string of Japanese characters in ivory; a red square with Japanese characters underneath Ohno's signature (these all appear on both woodblocks); on one woodblock t is also another red diamond shape with Japanese symbols.

The matting appears to be somewhat yellowed with age, but it looks like it was an ivory shade to begin with.

Bakufu's woodblocks typically sell in excess of $100 each.

NEW INFO: One print has just come loose from its attachment at the top of the backing. On that print, I see a slightly lighter area on the edge of the top right - this goes through to the back. The color is slightly lighter in the front, but shows as white on the back. Also, the back of the now loose print has dark strips along the BACK edges only; this does not show through to the front. The other print does not have this. Both have rough-finish edges on one side and the top (I can't see the top of the attached one, but it's like that on the loose one so I'm assuming they're both the same), and the bottom and other side are straight cut edges.
