On offer is a mother of pearl tambour hook that would originally have come from a fitted sewing set that sold in the arcades of Palais Royal in Paris , France , circa 1820. These are excess items from many years of collecting of these sewing tools to complete missing spaces in Palais Royal sewing boxes. As any collector who has done this before knows how frustrating it is to have a gap in these beautiful sets and how few of the tools actually come up for sale nowadays. It measures 12.6 cm. The top screws off to reveal a chamber for tambour hooks. (No hooks present) The base screws off to reveal the place where the hook fitted when in use. Please see the extra photos we supplied so that you can see this item in detail. There is some wear to the gold plate or gilt of the base piece. This has been caused by regular handing over the years and must be expected for an item 190 years old. The bottom section does not screw in totally flush with the mid section. There is an empty pin hole in the brass mid section where a rivet might have fallen out. These tambours hooks are very scarce and this is ideal for anyone trying to complete a boxed sewing set. PLEASE SEE OUR OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE PALAIS ROYAL SEWING AND NEEDLEWORK TOOLS.
