Offered is this nearly perfect and barely-used flight steward's load adjuster slide rule from the 1940's. These were used by flight attendants to adjust loads aboard the aircraft. Included is the supple leather case, in good condition. These items were in our uncle's trunk of memorabilia; he was a flight steward for Pan Am's Pacific Clipper fleet immediately following WWII. Load adjuster has weights in kgs on front, diagram of aircraft on back. Load adjuster is made of wood with plastic slide. This is a nice piece of aviation history. Load adjuster measures 12 1/2" x 2"; case measures 12 3/4" x 2 5/8" x 1". Manufactured by Cox & Stevens Aircraft Corp. for Pan Am. Case stamped B-377 with the number "10" hand-painted on flap. Please email any questions.
Hello, we believe it's for a Boeing 377. Both the Case and the Front of the rule are marked B-377. Thank you! I've added a picture of the upper left portion of the rule as well as end of the case marked B-377, indicating that the aircraft was a Boeing-377, and also a photo of the back of the rule, with the diagram of the aircraft. Thanks to the watchers who clarified for which aircraft the rule was manufactured! Hello, to clarify, the reason I mentioned Pan Am's Pacific Clipper fleet is mainly because of all the other memorabilia we have in the case, everything says "Pan Am's Pacific Clipper fleet", which include his certificates also listed for sale on eBay, as well as his menus for the Pacific routes (the Orient, South Pacific, U.S. Mainland, and Hawaii) that I have yet to list. However, I now realize he transfered to the Pacific-Alaska Division in the early fifties, so t's a chance this load adjuster was part of his equipment then. Thanks again for the clarity on the aircraft and please email any more questions or advice. Yours, Randy Sliderule is for a Boeing 377. is Boeing's website which indicates that the B-377 was used beginning in 1947 between the US mainland and Hawaii, which is in line with the rest of our uncle's memorabilia, indicating he was a steward for Pan Am's Pacific service: /history/boeing/m377.html
