You are looking at all wood carved Indian Chief Pipe from the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, NY, 1901. This has been in our family in Buffalo since it was bought at the Expo by our Grandfather as a little boy. The pipe is just shy of 10" long, the chief'shead is 4 1/4" high. It is signed on the stem in black ink: " PAN AMERICAN EXPO 1901". The bowl of the pipe is a carved Head with great detail: the eyes are original glass beads, the feathers are very detailed, the hair is painted black (the rest of the head is brown). The stem is a beautiful red/brown branch and carved out a bit in order for the writing to stand out. No one has ever used it to smoke, t is a small scratch and nick on the chin of the head, one small part of the feather at the top of the headdress has broken off (can only be seenon one side), but is in incredible condition for its age. Please feel free to ask any questions and thank you for looking.
