Two sterling silver award medals awarded at the Panama Pacific International Exposition (PPIE) of 1915 in San Francisco, CA. The medals were awarded to Gustav Rathgeb-one for the side horse and the other for "All Around Championship". The front of the medals has a robed female figure and around the circumference reads: Amateur Union of the United States MDCCCLXXXVIII (1888).The reverse has an elaborate display of sports equipment intertwined in wreaths-along the circumference reads: Panama-Pacific International Exposition San Francisco 1915.The medals are 1 3/4 inches in diameter and are in excellent condition-some minor surface scratches-looks as if the medals were polished at some point along the way but not the pin at the top of the ribbon (which also reads Panama Pacific International Exposition 1915 ( I assume this is also sterling but can see no mark). These pieces are beautiful and I assume one of a kind-at least as awarded for these events at the Exposition in 1915.
