A spiritual treasure ! A beautiful gilt reliquary in the shape of the Papal arms with the Tiara on top, the Patriarch's cross, the keys of St. Peter and two palm leaves. Reliquaries like this were originally created when Pope Pius VII (1800-1823) was taken prisoner by the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and stayed in Fontainebleau between 1808-1812, as gifts for the bishops and dignitaries who visited him in exile. This reliquary contains a rare relic of an important saint and martyr. The reliquary is sealed with the red wax seal of Etiene Hubert De Cambaceres, Archbishop of Rouen, Primte of Normady (Cardinal from 1803-1818) with the threads intact. Paris, ca. 1810. The relic is of: * St. Euphemia (+ 303) A young Christian from Chalcedon who refused to attend a festival in honour of the pagan God of War Mars during the Diocletian persecution. She was taken before a judge named Priscus, subjected to terrible tortures and then mauled and bitten to death by a bear on Sep. 16, 303. Early in the 5th century, a Church in her honour was built in Chalcedon, later site of an important ecumenical council. Also the reliquary contains a relic of St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi enwrapped in paper. As per Ebay's new rules, this item is allowed as it contains no human remains but objects of devotion; the relics are 2nd class relics of cloth, hair, chalk or stone. Please note that you bid on the precious antique reliquary, the relic is a gift to the High Bidder. Please contact me if you have any questions. Bid with confidence, the authenticity is guaranteed. Good luck and God bless you!
