A very fine Paris porcelain Empire period coffee can and saucer, superbly decorated with tooled gilding on a mid blue silk-finish ground. The central scene is of a cherub with dove. Swans feature prominently and were popular decorative devices during this period, with Empress Josephine being very fond of the birds. Swans are a recurring theme in the decor of her room in the Chateau de Malmaison.With an incised "V" to the base of the can. No identifiable maker's mark.Circa 1810 - 1815.Saucer 13cm diameter / 3cm deep, cup 6cm rim diameter, 6.3cm high.In excellent condition without damage. Slight gilding wear to the saucer. The gilding is tarished in places but this could be professionally cleaned. sevres, darte, nast
