First introduced by Parker in 1921, the Duofold button-filler pen became a mainstream writing instrument in American life. This is the larger Senior model, with matching mechanical pencil, in a brilliant sea green jade color. The barrel of the pen says 'Geo. S.Parker DUOFOLD, made in USA'.The large gold nib is engraved, 'Parker Duofold'. T are no chips, cracks, or scratches. The pencil has retractable lead, and the pen writes smoothly. The button filler is aluminum, the print on the barrel is smaller, the blind cap is smooth and rounded, and t are two gold cap bands---all consistent with the changes made to the Duofold in 1948. Andreas Lambrou in his informative history, Fountain Pens Of the World, p. 194, published by Classic Pens, Essex, England, 1995 , says "mechanical pencils were not known". The current offering is the first matched set I have seen. The condition of this set is outstanding. The green is brilliant with no discoloration. These pens were quite vulnerable to barrel discoloration. As the sac deteriorated, by-products of the rubber sac would react with the plastic producing a muddy-green discoloration. It is instructive to look at Pierre Haury's and Jean-Pierre Lacroux's book, A Passion for Pens (Greentree Publications, 1993), page 55. They illustrate 4 green Parker Duofolds. Three of them evidence the brown discoloration.
