You are bidding on one Original Monte Card owned by the famous lawman and gambler Pat Garrett. This offer is attractively displayed, and includes a full provenance package. The quantities of these sets are extremely limited. It is is widely known and documented that Garrett befriended and gambled with Billy the Kid at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, during the Lincoln County Wars (1878-1880). Garrett was elected Sheriff of Lincoln County in 1880, and shot and killed the Kid in July of 1881. Garrett spent the remaining 27 years of his life working at various times as a rancher, lawman, and customs official, but always remained a gambler. It was during the 1890's and early 1900's that Garrett was most active in all of these professions. Items that can be connected to Pat Garrett are extremely rare and can be very valuable. This card is one of a small quantity that was discovered in his roll top desk in 1969. The included provenance is extensive, irrifutable, and goes directly back to the Garrett family. The card is in excellent condition, but shows slight signs of Garrett's use. This offering includes: - An original Monte card owned by Pat Garret, displayed in an antiqued gold washed frame, on a green felt field - Included in the display is a copy of the reverse side of the card, and a copy of the manufacturer's index card. - A brass read more
