The Flying Best Big Red One - 1st Infantry Division 1st Aviation Battalion Extremely Rare US 1st Aviation Battalion The Flying Best 1st Infantry Division Air Mobile and Air Cavalry 1st Aviation Battalion - Vietnam War As shown by the 'Big Red One' to the centre of the Patch, the 1st Aviation Battalion was assigned and part of the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. With no more than 380 operatives during their Vietnam service the 1st AVN BN departed from Fort Riley with the main body of the 1st Infantry Division, Big Red One in October of 1965. They were to remain in Vietnam until April of 1970, some four and a half years later.
