Can Tho - US Special Forces Mobile Strike Force - Mike Force Can Tho, Mekong Delta Command and Control Mekong Although officially under the command of CCS (Command and Control South) out of Ban Me Thuot (North of Saigon) the US Special Forces operations out of Can Tho, Detachment B-40 was unofficially known as Command and Control Mekong. The majority of Mekong based operations, including those conducted out of My Tho and along the Cambodian Border with the Mekong River were ordered out of this base. Command and Control Mekong patches are extremely rare. This is a US Special Forces, Litghning Team Patch (Mobile Launch Team) out of Can Tho, attached to US Special Forces Detachment B-40. Rare Shoulder Scroll patch of the US Special Forces / Mike Force, Detachment B-40 at Can Tho. Operating throughout IV Corps Tactical Zone ( Military Region 4 ) the Mike Force Unit out of Can was one of the larger forces to operate in Vietnam and the largest in the Mekong Delta. Detachment B-40, although only offically named as such in October of 1969 had operated out of Can Tho from as early as 1965. At their peak, Detachment B-40 had over 1900 Special Forces Operatives in US Special Forces and Indigenous Personnel Attached. The Unit was the command base for the 4th Special Forces in Vietnam. On the withdrawal of the US Special Forces from the Can Tho base, and with the continued assault of Viet Cong forces in the area the South Vietnamese Army closed the base rather than man with Rangers.
