Vietnam War Original Patch - United Statese Coast Guard Cutter Ship CAMPBELL (CUTTER CAMPBELL) CUTTER CAMPBELL - Cutter Campbell had an illustrious history long before it became involved in the Vietnam War. Built in 1936 and operating out of New York it had four running battles with Submarines during WWII and sank one submarine U-606 by ramming it, it also sank 6 convoy vessels of the german Navy. It continued it military service into the Korean War and arrived in Vietnam in 1966 as part of the United States Navy / Coast Guard's 'Operation Market Time' that was to continue until 1973. Operation Market Time was an effort by the US Military (The Coast Guard is a Military attachment) and the Republic of South Vietnam to prevent the movement of supplies and men from North Vietnam to South Vietnam by sea. (This effort was severely hampered when in 1968 - 69 the ARVN managed to lose some 1,300 hundred vessels (intact) to the Viet Cong thus expanding the Navy and the size of the task of Operation Market time. This is an extremely rare patch of the United States Coast Guard Cutter, Campbell (later shortened to just CAMPBELL) during the 1968 - 1969 period of Operation Market Time and narrowed down even further to the Gunnery Department.
