Marine Air Group 36 One Only Available Flight Jacket Patch One Only Available MAG 36 - Support Marine Aircraft Group 36 arrived in Vietnam off the USS Princeton into Chu Lai on the 1st of September 1965. The arrival of MAG 36 produced two firsts; The arrival of MAG 36 was the first full Marine aircraft group to arrive in Vietnam The arrival of the helicopters of MAG 36 noted the first time that a mass helicopter troop was transported in this way Flying Hueys and Cobras the role of MAG was threefold, been; Medevac (Medical Evacuation) Assault Missions Logistical Support MAG 36 was the main Helicopter group involved in the Battle of Hue during the 1968 Tet Offensive. Mag 36 withdrew from Vietnam in November of 1969 back to Okinawa and returned to Vietnam via Thailand in 1972. In 1973 MAG 36 operated from Ships in the South Chin Sea in assault of North Vietnamese Positions and by late 1973 was working in clearing mines in Haiphong. MAG 36 participated in April 1975, in both Operation Eagle Pull and Operation Frequent Wind, the evacuation of US and Free World Civilians and Military Personnel from both Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Saigon.
