Rare patinated and gilded bronze rotary clock c. 1875.18" high. This clock based on the design of a single urn carved in porphyry, formerly in the collection of the Duc de Tallard. At the sale of Tallard's collection in 1756, the vase was purchased for 5,001 livres by the marquis de Marigny, brother of Madame de Pompadour. Following the death of his sister, Marigny lost his position as directeur général des Bâtiments, together with the sumptuously decorated hôtel that came with it, and the vase, together with other contents, were purchased from him by the Crown. Later displayed in the Salon du Premier Consul at the Tuileries, w it remained through to the end of the Second Empire, the vase is now in the collection of the Louvre. During the second part of the 19 century this popular model was produced by Beurdeley and later Linke. If you have any questions or need additional pictures please do not hesitate to contact me. In the course of the next few days I will be posting on the EBAY quite a few very important objects of the mostly 19th century French Decorative and Fine Art. Most of the pieces are signed or can be firmly attributed to the leading Maters such as Linke, Dasson, Zwiner, Sormani ect. They are the part of my extencive collection of the last 30 years but due to current economic condition I will need to dispose of them.
