Superb example of Paul Chen / Hanwei Original "Golden Oriole " Daisho set comprising of Katana and Wakizashi with Black lacquered stand and sword maintenance kit , also with two burgundy sword bags. This set was purchased by me about 7 years ago and have been on display only , never used for practice nor cutting. They are in pristine condition and lacquered scabbards retain the original luster and sheen .Blades have been stored oiled and always kept in a climate controlled room.This set retailed for over $1,000 and looks great on display or let your inner Samurai take over. These are true swords with sharp blades and clay tempered hamon. These swords are hand crafted at the Dalian forge of Paul Chen / Hanwei. These swords have features usually found only on original Samurai swords. The blade is hand forged high-carbon steel. The blade is tempered using the traditional clay process ,producing a hard cutting edge while maintaining the body of the blade at 40 RC hardness for resilience and shock absorbtion. The blade's temper line (o-midari, meaning "turbulent sea") is one of the most beautiful and important features of the Japanese sword; many "temper lines" are simply etched or ground into a blade and have no functional value. But a true Hamon temper line indicates that the edge has been independently hardened in the traditional manner.
