You are bidding on an amazing vintage dining set by Paul McCobb for the H. Sacks and Sons company from Brookline, Massachusetts. H. Sacks and Sons was a high line retailer in Brookline , serving Boston and the Harvard area from 1912 till the 80's. It was common for them to"Private Label" furniture from many mfg's with their name, we see items from all periods marked this way, and that is the case These are identical to the # 7028 table w/brass inlay edge and stretchers, the # 7001 side chair, and # 7009 arm chair produced by Calvin of Grand Rapids, MI for their Directional series. This set is extremely rare and seldom seen on ebay. The same set is currently for sale at Wright in Chicago, one of the premier modern furniture auction houses and retailers in the U.S. is a link to their set: /wn/category/dining/individual_lots/din_wn433-001.html they are offering it with eight chairs (as opposed to this set with four) for $9500. I have set my reserve at less than $400. The table, chairs, and six leaves are made from a beautiful mahogany that has developed a nice patina over the years. With all six leaves, the table measures a massive 128 inches and could accommodate 10 people easily. The set is in good condition and could be used as is, but does have some flaws. The bodies of the chairs have a few scuffs that clean up nicely and don't need much attention in my opinion, the cushions will need to be replaced as the foam has hardened and the fabric is worn through on a couple of seams, t are also two chairs which have small flaws in the caning that could easily be repaired. The table itself is also in good condition with nothing but normal wear. T is one flaw w the brass trim has come up and a nail popped through the edge. The leaves are the only thing that really need to be refinished, t is a fairly pronounced difference in color between them and the table, and they were improperly stored, leading to some scratches, also, the trim on the leaves is intact, but will need re-gluing. I priced out refinshing the leaves and refoaming and recovering the chairs and was quoted $200 and $130 plus fabric for the two jobs. This is an amazing chance to get a very rare set for a steal of a price. This set would set off any dining room and compliment just about any style of design from Danish Modern to Bauhaus. I am not offering shipping on this set due to the size, I would however be willing to deliver within 100 miles of 49001 for a reasonable charge to be agreed upon with the winning bidder. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have regarding this set or for additional pictures. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
