It hails from the famed Ramsay family of Lee Priory, at Littlebourne, Kent, England, and it is a spectacular piece, with original stand, burner and locking key hardware, all of the pieces duly marked with appropriate assay stamps, along with a prominent makers touch - "Hunt & Roskell, Late Storr & Mortimer." These successors to Paul Storr, the most noteworthy of British silversmiths, were among the best of their era, and this beautifully styled item is testament to that characterization, featuring elegant, simply adorned styling to the kettle, also with a fine handle with good insulators. The shell-foot stand is a most delightful component, as well, quite ornate with beautiful curved legs and again, original burner and key hardware. The kettle is simply and elegantly engraved with a horned animal head above a crown-like castle turret, and according to our research, that could very well be a variant of the Ramsay coat of arms (in which a unicorn is features above a crown, at the top of the cartouche). Again, it's an exquisite item, finely preserved, in very good condition with a dash of scattered tarnish and scattered shallow body dings to the kettle (about a half-dozen by our count, with scratching and smaller, rather teeny dings). The hinge works well, and the keys do their job as originally intended. The assembled item measures 13" tall X 8 1/2" wide.
