In order to make a call you must deposit a quarter to get a dial tone. A warning light comes on to let you know that your time is almost up at which point you drop another quarter in.. You will be amazed at how those quarters add up. You do not need any thing to hook the phone up. It comes with a standard jack . You just plug it in and your done. It has a lock and key to open the money box as the picture shows. The works perfect and looks nice and it is clean. T are directions on the phone on how to use it
