These arrowheads are from an estate sale in Tulsa. This time the batch of artifacts appears to be of a very high quality. The present owner of these arrowheads, an elderly widow, gave me some more detailed information about their origin: She said t hese artifacts were found in a huge dry lake area in Mexico in the State of Coahuila at a place called "La Laguna de Mairn". Her family got them in the 1960's and 70's while on vacation visiting relatives in the town of San Pedro de las Colonias. They were all found lying on the ground and none were found after 1977, when they stopped going on vacation to Mexico. The many kids, cousins, neices and nephews enjoyed going on excursions to look for them and were paid for each one they found. Goat herders and people out gathering mesquite firewood also found arrowheads. Railroad section hands also picked them up while out working on the tracks in solitary places. They sold them for drinking money on weekends in the big cities of Torreon and Gomez Palacio. The town of San Pedro de las Colonias used to be the arrowhead capitol of Coahuila for wealthy Mexican collectors and tourists alike. She said the larger points (for large game) were found in the mountains of Tlahualilo about 50 miles north of Torreon. The smallest (...for hummingbirds?) are from the Parras area. Medium sized birdpoints were probably used for hunting ducks, rabbits and geese and were the plentiful norm across the now dry lake bed. It must have been a waterfowl paradise before a dam was built on the Nazas River for the sale of irrigation water. Information was written on some of the arrowheads by the original collector and can be removed with fingernail polish remover. The following codes stand for the names of various legendary arrowhead hunters of the day: B - Ignacio Banda E - Juan Estrada S.V. - Salvador Velasquez Included with the artifacts is a Mexican coin. Also found by this family in the desert during the 60's and 70's and part of this great collection. Free shipping to USA & Canada!
