Condensed milk containers were used in the early 20th century to mask the utilitarian look of canned milk at the dinner table. The hole in the bottom of the jar was so that the can could be removed easily. This one has its jar and lid, with transfer decoration of Hamlet and Ophelia by J.H. Bacon. It stands 4" tall without its lid, and is 3.5" in diameter. The gold on both the jar and lid handles is worn, but otherwise it is in good condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. It is marked Victoria Carlsbad Austria. I also have a coordinating decorative 10" plate available in a seperate auction.I try to describe all my items as accurately as possible. If an item is materially different than I have stated, please contact me so that we can come to an amicable solution.
