This great mid-century set of two rectangular Casserole Dishes or Pans from the region around Tlaquepaque is hand crafted of clay and hand decorated in shades of green, blue, white and terra cotta with black accents over a painted terra cotta background. Bands of color decorate the inner sides of the dishes with a desert scene on the inside bottom of each piece. The outsides of the dishes are not decorated. Glazed overall, the somewhat misshapen rectangular dishes are nicely sized with the larger just about 10-1/2 inches long and 8-3/4 inches wide and the smaller 9-3/8 inches long and 7-7/8 inches wide. These are vintage pieces and as such, do show signs of use - overall they're in very good vintage condition. There are a few rough patches in the glaze, some of the expected rough spots along the rims and a few small flakes in the decoration. The irregularities in the shape, the clay, the paint and the glaze are common and expected in handcrafted pottery of this type and help make these pieces unique – We aren't aware of any chips, cracks or repairs to these wonderful old dishes. At one time pottery items such as these were made and used as kitchenware. Since the mid 20th Century, these pieces have read more
