ATTENTION BLANKET, SOUTHWEST AND NATIVE AMERICAN ART COLLECTORS Offered for auction is The Ancient Blanket Series by nationally renowned Hopi weaver and artist, Ramona Sakiestewa. Each blanket in the series is offered in individual auctions. Weaving began in the America Southwest in 700 AD. Celebrate the beauty of our Native American heritage with these 6 trade blankets inspired by national monuments in Arizona or New Mexico and woven with traditional Indian designs. Each blanket is 100% wool and measures 64 x 80 inches. They were produced on jacquard looms at the Scalamandre Mill in New York . A mill known for their fine custom work and which has produced fabrics and wall coverings for the White House. About the artist: Ramona Sakiestewa is an accomplished artist and business woman. She was selected as the head interior designer for the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian and was the first Native American to actually design a Pendleton blanket. Beginning in 1991, she designed the Southwest Trails series of blankets for Pendleton which included the Santa Fe Trail , The Chihuahua Trail, The Hopi Trail, The Navajo Trail and the Iron Trail. She formed her own company in 1995 and created The Ancient Blanket Series. About the blankets: The blankets were introduced in 1995 and sold in limited editions of 1,000 for $350.00 each. A new blanket was introduced in the series every 6 months for a total of 6 blankets in the series. The blankets were available individually or as a complete collection. These blankets were purchased as a collection and are numbered 197/1000. About this blanket: The fifth in the series, Wupatki, celebrates the Wupatki National Monument in Arizona . For its time and place, t was no other pueblo like Wupatki. Less than 800 years ago, it was the tallest, largest, and perhaps the richest and most influential pueblo around. It was home to 85-100 people, and several thousand more lived within a day's walk. The blanket has been stored in a sealed plastic bags with cedar and has not been displayed or used. It comes from a smoke free environment. The blanket is a soft blend of purple, black, grey and cream and the back side features a vibrant reversal of the colors. These soft and luxurious blankets can be used as bedding or as art pieces. Display ideas include: pueblo style (blanket pole suspended from the ceiling by rope), kiva style (blankets are hung on each rung of a wooden kiva ladder, traditional style (blanket or quilt rack) or contemporary style (as a wall hanging from a curtain using clip rings or tab tops or by using commercially available blanket rods).
